California's Stockton airport to attracts business from Amazon

THE manager of Stockton Metropolitan Airport 70 miles south of California's capital of Sacramento, Harry Mavrogenes, has welcomed Amazon plans to add aircraft in August. 

Having already added one placne Mr Marvrogenes said this wasgood news for the airport, which has room to accommodate more Boeing 767 freighters.



"That's every day of the week. So business is growing and we are very pleased with that," he told CNBC News. 



Air Transport International manages the cargo service for Amazon. It started using the Stockton airport five months ago, bringing in 50 jobs. It is expected that more people will be hired when Amazon's extra cargo jets commence service.



Amazon said this is part of its plan to cut shipping costs for one- and two-day deliveries for its "Prime" customers.



The Amazon fulfilment centre in Tracy is located 17 miles from the Stockton airport, itself 70 miles south of Sacramento and within 100 miles of San Fransciso and San Jose.
