Sri Lanka looks for buyers for under-utilised Mattala Rajapaksa airport
THE Sri Lankan government is looking for expressions of interest from investors for Mattala Rajapaksa International airport, the world's most underused airport.
According to local press reports, Chinese IT firm IZP has emerged as a front runner, reported Air Cargo News.
Since its opening in March 2013, the airport has made heavy losses with only one daily flight.
Mattala is 250 kilometres from the island nation's capital, Colombo, and is widely suspected its location was favoured by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who has a home nearby.
