HKIA cargo volume in June increases by 5.3pc YoY
HONG KONG International Airport's (HKIA) cargo volume in June rose by 5.3 per cent year on year to 368,000 tonnes, pushed up by an 11 per cent increase in transshipment volumes.
Exports and imports in June registered five per cent and two per cent growth, respectively, compared to the same month last year. Traffic to and from Southeast Asia and Mainland China outperformed other regions, reported Air Cargo News.
In the first six months of the year, cargo volume decreased by 0.8 per cent to 2.1 million tonnes compared to the corresponding period in 2015.
Looking ahead, the airport authority's general manager of strategic planning and development, Julia Yan, said cargo tonnage is expected to "consolidate" in the second half of the year.
"Meanwhile, we are closely monitoring whether there will be any impact on external economic environment and air traffic figures in the medium-term caused by Britain's referendum to leave the European Union," said Ms Yan.
