Ruili Airlines signs US$1.6 billion deal for six 787-9 Dreamliners
YUNNAN-BASED Ruili Airlines and US plane maker Boeing have announced at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow a deal for six 787-9 Dreamliners, valued at US$1.59 billion.
The order represents the first widebody order for Ruili Airlines, which first announced an intent to order the six aircraft in May, according to PR Newswire.
"With our base in Yunnan province, Ruili Airlines is positioned to help build Yunnan as the gateway between Southwest China and the rest of the world," said Ruili chairman Ma Zhanwei.
"The right size, long range, competitive fuel efficiency, as well as passenger appealing edge of the 787-9 make it an ideal fit in facilitating our international expansion plans," said Mr Ma.
Established in February 2014, Ruili operates a fleet of nine 737 aircraft on 16 domestic routes with 46 daily departures. The start-up carrier plans to expand its fleet to 70 airplanes by the end of 2025.
Said Boeing commercial aircraft chief Ray Conner: "The 787-9 complements Ruili Airlines' narrowbody fleet and enables it to operate long-haul services."
With the fuselage stretched six metres over the 787-8, the 787-9 will fly over 40 more passengers and an additional 520 kilometres with the same exceptional environmental performance - 20 per cent less fuel use and 20 per cent fewer emissions than the aircraft it replaces.
