Shenzhen's Donghai Airlines to buy 25 Boeing 737s and five 787-9s
BOEING and Shenzhen's Donghai Airlines have announced an intent to buy twenty-five 737 MAX 8s and five 787-9 Dreamliners for US$4 billion in a deal from this year's Farnborough Airshow southwest of London.
Donghai Airlines earlier ordered 15 Next-Generation 737-800s and ten 737 MAX 8s in 2013 as it fulfilled its plan to move from cargo to passengers.
"Donghai Airlines has undergone steady development over the past 10 years since the beginning of our freighter operations in 2006," said its chairman Wong Cho-Bau.
"Under China's One Belt One Road initiative, we will accelerate our fleet expansion. We're committed to introducing new next-generation airplanes that deliver the industry-leading fuel efficiency," he said.
Boeing will work with Donghai Airlines to finalise the details of the agreement. The order will be posted on Boeing's Orders & Deliveries website once all contingencies are cleared.
Said Boeing commercial airplanes chief Ray Conner: "We are honoured by Donghai Airline's reaffirmation of the 737 MAX, and we look forward to welcoming Donghai as our new 787 customer."
The 737 MAX incorporates the latest technology CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets and other improvements to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.
The 787-9 Dreamliner can fly 290 passengers up to 14,140 kilometres in a typical two-class configuration. The aircraft will deliver unmatched fuel efficiency to Donghai airlines, enabling the carrier to expand the range and quantity of services in the long-haul market.
