Brexit vote stalls London area airport expansion decision yet again
BRITAIN's Brexit vote to leave the European Union means the government's will delay its decision about the location of the new London area airport, says British Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin.
"Being realistic, given recent events, I cannot now foresee an announcement," said Mr McLoughlin in a statement to ITV News.
No decision will be taken until a new Prime Minister is chosen in October following the resignation of David Cameron, reports Lloyd's Loading List.
Prime Minster David Cameron had been expected until recently to confirm next month whether an expansion on Heathrow or Gatwick would be approved.
Said Airport Operators Association (AOA) chief executive Darren Caplan: "The AOA is deeply disappointed. This delay is despite the firm commitment to decide by the end of 2015, which was then delayed until this summer."
