Port of Virginia's throughput increases 4.8pc to 219,398 TEU
BOX volume in May at the Port of Virginia declined 4.8 per cent year on year to 219,398 TEU.
But it still broke records owing to the diversion of cargo from US west coast ports due to labour problems.
"Volume for May was not as high when compared with last year, but that was anticipated," Virginia Port Authority CEO John Reinhart.
"We are still tracking for a very modest gain for the fiscal year, and our volume expectations for the balance of the calendar year are realistic," he said.
For the first 11 months of the July-June fiscal year, total container traffic rose 2.6 per cent year on year.
Rail container volume in May rose 8.3 per cent, while truck container volume fell 12.6 per cent.
