Asia Pacific airlines's cargo falls 0.7pc in May, says AAPA
ASIA Pacific airlines suffered a 0.7 per cent year-on-year drop in freight tonne kilometres in May, reports the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).
Results show that soft conditions are continuing in air cargo markets.
Offered freight capacity increased by two per cent, leading to a 1.6 percentage point drop in the average international freight load factor to 61.3 per cent for the month.
"International year-to-date demand registered a 3.9 per cent decline compared to the same period a year ago," said AAPA director general Andrew Herdman.
"The demand for air passengers remains positive, but the stimulus of low oil prices is dissipating, and uncertainty over the global economic outlook is clouded by potential repercussions from the political events in Europe," he said.
"Airlines are continuing to focus on disciplined cost management efforts throughout the business," Mr Herdman said.
