DHL opens Myanmar express facility to boost international trade

MAJOR global international express services provider, DHL Express, and part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, has launched the biggest express facility in Myanmar.

This is designed to support the nation's fast-growing economy which is forecast to rise by 8.5 per cent in 2016.

Located in Yangon and occupying over 50,000 square feet of land with a built-up area of 32,500 square feet, the facility's expansive handling capacity is set to support Myanmar's strong import and domestic demand.

Said DHL country manager Mark Ong: "The centre is close to the airport - which enables us to ensure faster deliveries for more customers, connecting them to our global network of over 220 countries."

The facility's conveyor belt system, spanning more than 280 feet and running throughout the centre, allows goods to be directly loaded into courier vans and rapidly distributed.

For securuity, parcels are continuously monitored by x-ray, in addition to over 30 CCTV cameras located throughout the premises, the company said.

Said DHL Express vice president Yasmin Aladad Khan: "Strengthened by the dismantling of trade barriers, economic reforms and foreign investment, Myanmar is a resource-rich land located at the intersection of China and India and full of untapped potential."

Myanmar's exports were up 12 per cent to US$12.5 billion while imports were up 21 per cent to $16.6 billion in the financial year ending March 31, he said.
