Hong Kong airport sees cargo drop 1pc in May to 362,000 tonnes
HONG KONG International Airport (HKIA) handled one per cent less cargo in May at 362,000 tonnes, with imports falling four per cent year on year and exports down two per cent.
Traffic to/from key trading regions in North America recorded the most significant drop during the month.
On the other hand, transshipment volume was up six per cent compared to the same month a year earlier.
During the first five months of the year, HKIA saw cargo traffic decline by two per cent to 1.7 million tonnes. On a rolling 12-month basis, cargo throughput decreased by 1.3 per cent year on year to 4.34 million tonnes.
On a more positive note, HK Express will commence direct thrice-weekly flights to Takamatsu, Japan in July.
