XPO Logistics to appeal after French court order to pay off drivers
FRANCE's Lyon Court of Appeal has ordered XPO Logistics, formerly Norbert Dentressangle, to pay GBP1 million (US$1.458 million) in back wages to lorry drivers covering overtime, paid holidays and compensatory rest periods between 2003 and 2013.
The claim was brought against the group by 28 drivers who worked for two of its subsidiaries, ND Silo and ND Bennes. The claim was first lodged in August 2007 and pre-dating XPO's acquisition of ND, reported Lloyd's Loading List.
XPO Logistics was cited as saying in a statement: "Taking into account the fact that previous judicial decisions in 2009 and 2010 relating to this case rejected staff demands, we are surprised by the Court of Appeal's verdict. We are going to carefully examine it (the verdict) and consider the possibility of a fresh appeal to France's Supreme Court."
