New Luxembourg-Shanghai air pharma corridor planned
LUXEMBOURG Airport and Eastern Air Logistics (EAL), the cargo terminal operator at Shanghai's Hongqiao and Pudong airports, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote a pharma corridor between Luxembourg and Shanghai.
Shanghai Pudong cargo terminal EAL and operator lux-Airport say they want to support safe and secure movement of healthcare products between the two points.
In addition, the two parties want to educate local and global businesses of the added value obtained by trading with "Food Distribution Practice" certified partners, and verify that all participants in the chain of transportation monitor performance indicators and maintain a quality system, London's freightweek reported.
"I am delighted to establish this mutually beneficial cooperation agreement between Eastern Air Logistics and lux-Airport," said airport CEO Johan Vanneste.
"This is the second such agreement we signed and I noticed some other airports are now copying us," he said.
He added that the tie-up was a "very interesting and unique development" for shippers of valuable pharma shipments and said it will stimulate traffic between Shanghai and Luxembourg.
EAL vice president Jin Xu noted the MoU "makes perfect sense" as it enables the two operators to create a GDP standard pharma trade lane between them. "This is a significant step in EAL's strategy to build a global pharma hub-and-spoke system that embraces all key world markets," he continued.
EAL is the first air cargo terminal operator in Shanghai to achieve GDP accreditation and operates a "Green Route" that fast tracks and protects time- and temperature-sensitive pharma and healthcare shipments between the aircraft and the storage facility.
The company handles 45 scheduled airlines and 300 freight agents at Shanghai. Its new PVG West Cargo Terminal can handle one million tonnes per annum.
