Panalpina partners Intershop to launch end-to-end e-commerce platform
SWISS forwarding giant Panalpina, has joined Germany's omni-channel specialist Intershop to offer an end-to-end e-commerce dedicated to B2B and B2C goods ordered online, reported Lloyd's Loading List."If you look at the e-commerce worldwide, it already represents sales of US$1.7 trillion and there is a clear trend of more companies switching from traditional trade to online or combining the two," said Panalpina global transit chief Peter Szabados. North America and Europe are mature markets that continue to post double-digit growth while online sales in China are booming, he said.
"Intershop's specialist software offers a nice package of advantages. A huge benefit is the scalability and flexibility we can reach. Whether we're working for companies with a very low or very high volume of trade, the solution remains the same."
The company's e-commerce platform will be served by the company's existing warehouse network "which already undertakes many e-fulfilment operations," Mr Szabados said.
"So in terms of investment costs, these focus on project management, the integration of systems, and the capability of managing the online business of customers."
Last-mile delivery will be carried out by integrators or a pool of local courier operators.
