Hapag-Lloyd US$50/box fee to be charged for VGM manual submissions
GERMANY's Hapag-Lloyd has announced a US$50 per box fee will be applied against European exporters who opt to submit container weight data manually after the UN's International Maritime Organisation's (IMO) demand for a verified gross mass (VGM) comes into effect July 1.
"This fee is only applicable in case of a manual transmission. To avoid this, contact your local Hapag-Lloyd office for assistance to find an alternative via their website or portal solutions," said the Hapag-Lloyd statement.
Shippers can "easily submit the VGM through new VGM oriented VERMAS (EDI) message - Preferred, via existing EDI connections (in e-Shipping Instruction, via Hapag-Lloyd website (Online Business webVGM or VGM Excel and via portal solutions such as INTTRA, GT Nexus, CargoSmart, Dakosy".
Hapag-Lloyd has asked customers to abstain from any manual transmission of VGM information via e-mail or other manual means to ensure smooth processing of this important information.
"With earliest effective date July 3 Hapag-Lloyd will introduce a Manual Transmission Fee for all VGM information that is transferred manually," said the company.
