Panama Canal suspends draft restrictions in panamax locks
THE Panama Canal Authority (ACP) announces that the first draft restriction announced in its advisory to shipping on April 18 has been suspended.
With immediate effect, the maximum authorised draft for vessels transiting the Panamax locks is set at 12.04 metres, or 39.5 feet, tropical fresh water (TFW), the GAC Hot Port News reported.
The weather forecast for the remainder of the rainy season indicates that no further draft restrictions for the panamax locks will be required. Nevertheless, Gatun Lake level will continue to be monitored in case restrictions are necessary, the ACP said.
