DHL signs Chengdu deal to speed up building of 'Belt & Road' trade hub

DHL GLOBAL Forwarding says it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on building a China - Europe logistics corridor with a Chengdu Gateway Logistics Office in support of China's "One Belt, One Road" initiative.

DHL Global Forwarding China chief Steve Huang, and Chengdu Gateway Logistics Office director Chen Zhongwei, signed the deal that will have DHL worked with Chengdu to improve security, customs efficiency and freight capacity of local infrastructure.

With Asia's biggest rail head, Chengdu's freight links to Europe have undergone rapid renewal, including development of the Chengdu-Europe Express Rail to Lodz in Poland.

DHL will also gain greater access to Chengdu's export trade lanes, allowing it to provide services to exporters in the city's fast-growing free trade zones like the High Tech Zone and Tianfu New Area.

"Chengdu has immense potential to add value to the former South Silk Road's revival," said Mr Huang.

"In the next few months, we will also be working on bringing rail service from Chengdu to Turkey, furthering our rail development in the city since we first opened our West Corridor rail solution from Chengdu to Lodz three years ago," he said.
