FedEx opens Memphis cold chain hub for Asian health products, perishables
FEDEX Express has opened a 7,710-square-metre cold chain centre at its hub in Memphis.
The facility is designed to protect the integrity of temperature-sensitive healthcare and perishable shipments transported mainly between the US and Asia Pacific.
Each year, US$130 billion worth of healthcare products use cold chain solutions globally. And that is expected to see double-digit Asia-Pacific growth through 2020, said the company.
"Modern cold chain logistics capabilities are opening up new possibilities for Asia Pacific's healthcare sector," said Asia Pacific president Karen Reddington.
"Today, shipping even the most sensitive products such as biopharmaceuticals around the world, which would have been difficult or impossible just a few years ago, has become easier than ever," she said.
The Memphis centre offers cutting-edge features to keep temperatures regulated in the event of unforeseen delays, such as clearance holds or inclement weather.
Other features include a 24/7 on-site international document agent (IDA) station with dedicated monitoring, and a cross dock station with direct trailer access to cold (two to eight degrees Celsius) environment.
