Karachi Port handles its biggest boxship - 8,600-TEU Hyundai Brave
KARACHI International Container Terminal (KICT) has handled its largest and longest container vessel yet, the 8,600-TEU Hyundai Brave, which made her inaugural call at the port on April 29.
Measuring 340 metres in length and 45.6 metres wide, the Hyundai Brave stacks 18 rows of containers across on deck, and is one of seven vessels deployed in Hyundai Merchant Marine's KMS Service, the London's World Cargo News reported.
April was a busy month for KICT with the MSC Lana Voy making its inaugural call at the port earlier in the month, marking the launch of a new Middle East Loop 1 (MEL 1) Service.
To mark the event, KICT held a maiden voyage ceremony, attended by KICT's CEO, Keith Lau, along with senior representatives of MSC Agency Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, and shippers. "We are excited to have this new service calling at KICT and are pleased to note MSC's direct service to the Middle East from Karachi," said Mr Lau.
MEL 1 has a rotation of Karachi, Jebel Ali, Sharjah, Sohar, Karachi, with links to all upper Gulf destinations via Jebel Ali. The weekly service calls at KICT every Monday.
