Ethiopian Airlines Cargo dethrones SAA Cargo as top African cargo carrier
FAST-GROWING Ethiopian Airlines Cargo has unseated South African Airways Cargo (SAA Cargo) as the African Cargo Airline at the Air Cargo Airline of the Year Awards 2016 in London.
Ethiopian Cargo operates to 30 destinations in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe using six B777 and two B757 freighters.
The airline also carries freight in the belly of Boeing passenger aircraft (B777/B787) to 92 destinations worldwide. The major cargo destinations include: Belgium (Brussels and Liege), Hong Kong, Shanghai, Bombay, New Delhi, Dubai, South Africa, Lome and Lagos, reports Cape Town's News24.
SAA Cargo's Tleli Makhetha said "Getting recognition from industry at the event of this magnitude makes us feel proud as an African Airline. We will work harder to strengthen our presence in Africa and beyond."
Said Air Cargo News editor Roger Hailey: "Ethiopian Airlines is a worthy winner of this award, as recognised by peer group professionals who voted in recognition of its valuable contribution to African air cargo."
