PACTL breaks air freight records in March and in the first quarter

SHANGHAI Pudong Int'l Airport Cargo Terminal (PACTL) having increased cargo volume 6.8 per cent year on year in March, produced a first quarter increase of 1.5 per cent to 367,791 tonnes.

These were the strongest results in both the month of March and the first quarter of any year in the company's history, reports the American Journal of Transportation.

International imports rose 1.9 per cent to 146,241 tonnes, while domestic imports decreased by 4.5 per cent to 11,029 tonnes.

The company's export cargo volumes grew 1.5 per cent to 210,521 tonnes. International exports showed a growth rate of 1.8 per cent reaching a total figure of 198,337 tonnes, while domestic exports declined 2.6 per cent to 12,184 tonnes.

"We managed to continue our growth path on a level similar to the previous year where we achieved a record result of nearly 1.6 million tonnes of air cargo," said PACTL vice president Lutz Grzegorz.

"Following several investments in our infrastructure and the continuous enhancement of handling processes, we were even able to further increase our market share," he said.

The company processed 49.2 per cent of the air cargo handled at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) in the first quarter of 2016, an increase of 0.4 per cent in comparison with the first quarter in 2015.
