Bratislava's 2015 air cargo traffic up 8.5pc, but cargo facilities lacking
THE MR Stefanik Airport in Bratislava transported 21,098 tonnes of goods in 2015, an increase of 8.5 per cent compared to the previous year.
Airport authorities are keen to boost air freight volumes, however, the airport lacks a dedicated cargo terminal, making it hard to convince the large haulage companies to fly, for example, from the Far East to Bratislava, rather than to Vienna, Brussels or Amsterdam, reported TASR newswire.
Said Bratislava airport manager Ivan Trhlik: "In the past, we were close to 30,000 tonnes."
By comparison, Vienna handles 180,000 tonnes of cargo despite not being a cargo transport specialist, like London or Amsterdam.
