Deutsche Bahn to keep proceeds from partial Schenker sale: report
DEUTSCHE Bahn (DB) has refused to comment on a media report claiming that it has reached an agreement with the German government allowing DB to keep the proceeds from the planned partial privatisation of DB Schenker Logistics and international passenger transport subsidiary DB Arriva.
The German business newspaper Handelsblatt, reported that the deal ends a dispute that was blocking the sale and had led to the cancellation of a special supervisory board meeting on the matter in early February. It said that meeting would now take place in April or May, quoting company and government sources.
When asked about the report, a DB spokesman told Lloyd's Loading List: "Regarding the matter of partial privatisation of DB Arriva and DB Schenker, DB is in close and constructive talks with both the Federal Government and the DB Supervisory Board. The topic will be on the agenda of one of the next DB Supervisory Board meetings. We will inform the public once a decision for the next steps has been made."
DB announced last July that it was considering a partial sale of the units to "boost strategic development and finance further growth?as part of a group-wide extensive restructuring programme - DB2020.
It has not elaborated on how much of DB Schenker Logistics - "the world's second largest transportation and logistics services provider based on revenues and performance - is earmarked for privatisation.
