Cargo handling at Frankfurt Airport goes increasingly digital
AIRPORT operator Fraport AG and software and IT service provider DAKOSY AG have drawn a positive balance after the first year of FrankfurtAIR@Link (FAIR@Link) at Frankfurt Airport.
Since the Cargo Community System began operating in January 2015, the number of new customers and thus also the volume of cargo handled via FAIR@Link has grown steadily.
During the course of 2015, the platform's users were joined by CEVA Logistics, GEODIS, Rohlig, UTi Deutschland, and cargo handler CHI.
The number of transports registered with FAIR@Link increased 55 per cent between January 2015 and January 2016, with a total of more than 40,000 air waybills, or AWBs for short, being processed via the system.
FAIR@Link, which was developed by DAKOSY, enables participating companies and government agencies to handle imported and exported air freight more efficiently, said DAKOSY chief executive Ulrich Wrage.
"The handling agents benefit from ˉFAIR@Link' both because it reduces paperwork and because it lets them assign personnel to loading and unloading processes more efficiently," he said.
"Forwarders and their service providers realise major time savings in connection with deliveries and pickups as a result of leveraging digital and largely automated processes," said Mr Wrage.
For Fraport, the launch of FAIR@Link marked the start of pushing forward the digitisation at Europe's largest cargo airport.
Said Fraport vice president Dirk Schusdziara: "Our customers want reliable, transparent processes, and FAIR@Link serves as the basis for this. That is why we actively supported the development of this system."
