XPO signs its biggest European deal with UK frozen food giant Iceland
CONNECTICUT based XPO Logistics has reportedly signed a US$600 million five-year warehousing and distribution contract with UK frozen food retailer Iceland - its biggest ever contract in Europe.
To meet Iceland growth targets, including 40 store openings, XPO Logistics a supply system that combines Iceland's network with XPO facilities, the company said, reported Lloyd's Loading List.
XPO Logistics will manage Iceland's distribution centres in Warrington, Enfield, Livingston and Swindon from product receipt to nationwide distribution.
All 1,900 workers at the four sites will transfer to XPO Logistics as part of a phased Transfer of Undertaking Protection of Employment (TUPE) process.
XPO will also manage Iceland's temperature-controlled fleet of 320 tractor units and 450 trailers.
Said Iceland's supply chain chief Nigel Morley: "XPO Logistics shares our values when it comes to putting people at the forefront of everything we do."
Said XPO country manager Richard Cawston: "We believe that our significant experience working with major food retailers will be invaluable in supporting our customer's expansion."
