SSA Marine's terminal in Seattle welcomes first 18,000-TEU ship
THE 18,000-TEU 'CMA CGM Benjamin Franklin has become the largest containership to call on a North American port, with a visit to the SSA Terminal 18 at the port of Seattle.
"It is a significant undertaking and only few ports are equipped to handle, said president of SSA Terminals, Ed DeNike, reported the American Journal of Transportation.
The mega ship has also called at two of SSA Marine's US west coast terminals: Pacific Container Terminal at the Port of Long Beach and the Oakland International Container Terminal.
Terminal 18 is the largest container facility in the Pacific northwest at 196-acres. SSA Terminals has invested US$80 million in cranes at this terminal since 2000.
