66pc of GOP voters oppose TPP trade deal after seeing what's in it

AMERICANS for Limited Government president Rick Manning released a poll showing Republicans overwhelmingly oppose to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) on discovering its contents, reported the American Journal of Transportation.

"The most striking thing about the poll is that Republicans are even more likely to oppose bad trade deals than independents or Democrats," said Mr Manning, who group commissioned the poll conducted by Pat Caddell, known as a Democrat pollster.

"Once they find out what's in it, Republican voters overwhelmingly oppose TPP, 66 per cent to 15 per cent. Democrats only oppose it 44 per cent to 30 per cent and independents oppose it 52 per cent to 19 per cent.

"These results confound the conventional wisdom that the GOP is the party of ˉfree trade.' As a matter of fact, Republicans overwhelmingly oppose trade deals that benefit foreign countries and not the American people, representing an outright rejection of corporate cronyism and being replaced by cheap foreign labour.

"This collapse in support is directly related to the rejection of corporate cronyism that has permeated Washington, DC, and should again serve as a wake-up call to every GOP member of Congress that business as usual is over," Mr Manning said.
