French unions hamper trains to save 35-hour work week from reform
FRENCH unions, in a campaign to preserve the 35-hour work week against coming reforms, hampered rail traffic around the country this week, reports Bloomberg News.
The strike began Tuesday at 7pm and ran through Wednesday and affected Eurostar links to London and some Thalys services to Brussels, according to national rail operator SNCF.
Unions are against a draft bill that would allow employers to increase working hours with minimal compensation, cap severance pay and make it simpler for companies to eliminate jobs.
