NYK adds 14,000-TEUer for deployment on Asia-Europe trades
NYK LINE has announced that a 14,000-TEU newbuilding has joined its fleet, having taken delivery from the Kure shipyard of Japan Marine United Corporation.
NYK Blue Jay is the first of 10 containerships that will be chartered by the Japanese carrier under time charter contracts with the owner. The other nine vessels will be delivered and chartered by June 2018. This first vessel will be deployed on the trade lane between Asia and Europe, a company statement said.
The hull design of the 364-metre long box ship allows for improved cargo loading efficiency, mainly achieved by minimising engine-room space.
Moreover, the vessel's main engine features two power ranges (high and low) to improve the fuel consumption rate when slow steaming and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
