Dubai's Sima Marine launches coastal shipping service from Kochi in India
SIMA Marine India Pvt, a subsidiary of Dubai-based Simatech Shipping, has started offering a container shipping service from Kochi connecting Mangalore in Karnataka, Goa and Mundra in Gujarat.
The service uses two 1,500-TEU vessels, sailing under the Indian flag to work within the cabotage law, reports Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) of New Delhi.
Managing director of Simatech Shipping Dubai and Sima Marine India, CF George, said the company sees good growth potential in the until now untapped India coastal segment.
"We believe a consistent service with competitive rates can attract more coastal cargo movement which is now moving by road. The Indian government is promoting container coastal movement by offering incentives," said Mr George.
The company has also started a back office operation in Kochi. "Soon, our new back office in Kochi will be in a position to support our entire global operations. All our ship planning and accounting operations will be done in Kochi," he said.
