Police suppress Calais ring road riots as bulldozers level migrant camp
CLASHES between police and rioting migrants over the demolition of their camp spilled on to the ring road leading to the Channel port with projectiles hitting trucks.
French media said that 150 people, some wielding sticks and iron bars, had also walked on to the ring road to block vehicles, reported Lloyd's Loading List.
After an hour, police regained control of the ring road, which was littered with debris, opening up access to the port again. A number of injuries among riot police were reported.
Bulldozers levelled the camp unhindered, but a tense standoff between police and protesters prevailed.
