Air Canada Cargo unveils 'aggressive' fleet expansion, marketing plans
AIR Canada Cargo is looking to expand its fleet to 98 aircraft by 2018, up from 73 dual-purpose aircraft in 2015, and to enter more international markets, reported the American Journal of Transportation.
Speaking at the Cargo Logistics Canada Expo & Conference in Montreal, Air Canada Cargo managing director Sal Ciotti said the company is adding eight new international destinations, including a first to Africa by offering three flights a week to Casablanca, Morocco starting from June.
Mr Ciotti acknowledged that compared to the passenger side of the business, the cargo unit is "about 15 years behind. We need to be more modern and more efficient, and to optimise what we have? he said.
He stressed that the cargo airline needed to be a bigger player in Europe, Asia, China, Bangladesh and Vietnam, adding that: "We see South America as a very big opportunity. And markets like Dubai are emerging as new distribution points."
In line with the rapid shift towards the electronic AirWayBill (eAWB), he said Air Canada plans to be 100 per cent paperless for all shipments within Canada by the end of April.
