Seattle-Tacoma air freight rises 11.8pc to 332,636 tonnes in 2015
THE Port of Seattle-Tacoma (Sea-Tac) posted an 11.8 per cent year on year increase in air freight in 2015 to 332,636 tonnes, reports the Puget Sound Business Journal.
But to keep that upward trend on track, more space is needed, said air cargo chief Tom Green, at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
Most of Sea-Tac's air freight is exports, worth US$9 billion in 2015, versus $7.4 billion in imports.
Seventy-five per cent of Sea-Tac's international air freight comes from a Northwest point of origin or is going to a regional destination.
Export demand comes from Washington state-origin food products, including airlifted cherry exports and seafood, aerospace parts and assemblies, and equipment manufactured by the region's advanced technology manufacturers in biomedical and related arenas, said the report.
