New US Ballast Water Management Reporting Form on web to be filled out

HENCEFORTH, ships calling at US ports are expected to report their ballasting activities on one of the new Ballast Water Management Reporting Forms, reports GAC Hot Port News.

New Ballast Water Management Reporting (NBIC) forms are available on the National Ballast Information Clearinghouse website.

The NBIC is a joint programme of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Centre (SERC) and the United States Coast Guard.

Go to http://invasions.si.edu/nbic/submit.html to use the forms and for information describing how and when ships are expected to report their ballast water (BW) management activities under the revised BW reporting and recordkeeping regulations.

The NBIC website contains links to specific sections of the Code of Federal Regulations and Federal Register and pointers to particular regulatory language.

In the event that a previous version of the BWMR form is received by the NBIC on or after February 22, the reported ballast water management data from the form will be entered into the NBIC Ballast Water Information System.

The NBIC will provide support to the maritime industry during this regulatory transition. Vessels will receive a response from the NBIC providing instructions on how to obtain new BWMR forms.
