Ireland's ASL runs India's Quikjet after takeover of Swiss-owned Farnair

CARGO flights, starting with daily flights from Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai and Hydria, have commenced from India's Quikjet after its new owner, Ireland's ASL Aviation, received its India air operator certificate.

Quikjet was formed as a startup in 2007, backed by various Indian investors, according to Seattle's Cargo Facts.

Swiss-based Farnair acquired 36 per cent in 2012 becoming a majority shareholder last year, before it was taken over by ASL.

Soon Quikjet will link Mumbai and Kolkata at which point it is expected that a new plane will be needed to supplement the 737-400F they have, reported Atlanta area Air Cargo World.

Quikjet is contracted to airport-to-airport logistics provider Sovika Aviation of Mumbai with interests in "chemicals, aviation and lifestyle," and aircraft leasing, ground handling, air charters, flight operations and airline representative services.

Quikjet CEO Preetham Phillip said that this newly introduced connectivity with Sovika will provide a key advantage to the growing e-commerce industry in India.
