Anglo Eastern, MarinePALS develop marine cadet learning platform
HONG KONG's Anglo Eastern Ship Management and MarinePALS have joined forces to develop an online learning platform for maritime cadets at the UN's International Maritime Organisation (IMO) that includes tutorials, task assessments, videos, animations and diagrams.
The system, called PALS (Proficiency and Learning System), provides the learning content for each of the tasks mentioned in GlobalMET and the International Shipping Federation (ISF) deck cadet record book. It also offers an off-line version available on a tablet.
Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) A-II/1 provides the framework of the competencies that each watch-keeping deck officer needs to be competent in. PALS provides the learning material addressing the framework as per STCW 78 as amended in 2010, Section A-II/1, reported Maritime-Connector based in Rijeka, Croatia.
The platform enables the information and progress of the cadet to be shared between administrator, company training officer, mentor and external assessors/ flag states, as well as the cadet, who will be able to receive feedback within the platform from the training officer.
