Hanjin puts into Krishnapatnam port for the first time with 3,614-TEUer

KOREA's Hanjin Shipping's 3,614-TEU Hanjin Florida made the company's first call to Krishnapatnam Port Container Terminal (KPCT) in northern Tamil Nadu on the east coast of India.

The call unloaded 109 TEU in imports and loaded 444 TEU in exports. KPCT has already surpassed FY 2014-15 container volume from last April through January this year and "offers immense opportunities for new service calls to tap its huge hinterland," said New York's Marine Link.



The rotation on this service is Krisnapatnam, Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore, Qingdao, Xinggang, Busan, Shanghai and Guangzhou-Nansha.



The service will cater to all import/export businesses ex INKRI (Port Code of Krishnapatnam Port) to Far East, USEC, USWC, Latin America, Europe and Inter Asia.



An inaugural ceremony was attended by Hoon Park, managing director of Hanjin Shipping (India) Pvt Ltd; N Jithendra, KPCT chief operating officer; the master of the Hanjin Florida, Capt Tuvindra Chaterjee and VK Sasidharan, regional general manager of Hanjin Shipping.



This direct container shipping service will open several trade opportunities for exporters and importers between these countries and is expected to give a boost to the trade on the east coast particularly for exports of granites, tobacco, shrimps, cotton yarn, linters, along with imports of auto parts, furniture, tiles, news print, coffee powder, fruit juices etc.
