Angry truckers threaten blockade of Le Havre port over eight-hour delays
FRENCH truckers, protesting "unacceptable delays and working conditions?have threatened to block the container terminals in protest.
In a letter addressed to authorities, reported Lloyd's Loading List, representatives from FNTR and OTRE said that "unless acceptable solutions were found swiftly they were ready to take strong action in the coming days and which could even go as far as blocking the port's terminals without prior notice."
The letter described waiting times at the port of up to eight hours for the unloading and loading of trucks as "unacceptable working conditions for drivers," and slammed "recurrent difficulties in booking appointments, which prevented truckers from going about their business in a practical manner."
Truckers have called for changes which "adapt handling capacity to the volume of activity, optimise inbound and outbound traffic and limit waiting times for trucks to one hour for which provision was made when the truck appointment system was originally set up."
They are also demanding "the re-use of the containers of all shipping companies without restrictive conditions or billing."
