Guangzhou's GAMECO and San Deigo's PACAVI seals A320 conversion deal
THE Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company (GAMECO) and San Diego's PACAVI Group have expanded their A320/A321 passenger-to-freighter conversion agreement.
The joint venture, in which Hong Kong's Hutchison group, has a stake, intends to offer a "one-stop-shop concept, offering tailored turnkey packages of airframe sourcing, purchase, customised conversion, and leasing or sale to airline customers of all tiers worldwide".
PACAVI started the prototype A320 for conversion at the HAITEC facility in Frankfurt/Hahn last year and recently completed the preliminary design review.
But under the agreement with GAMECO, conversion of the first commercially ordered A320 will commence shortly at GAMECO's Guangzhou plant.
Regarding that first customer order, PACAVI has for some time hinted that it had orders and commitments for more than thirty A320/A321 conversions, reports Seattle's Cargo Facts.
The veil of secrecy will be lifted on April 20 in a joint announcement of a 30-unit firm order by PACAVI, GAMECO and the customer, the company said.
Beyond this 30-unit order, PACAVI also had firm orders and commitments for another twenty-six A320 and A321 P-to-F conversions.
PACAVI shares A320/A321 conversion market with Germany's EFW, the former maintenance, repair, overhaul and conversion arm of Airbus.
Under a joint venture, ST Aero provides engineering for the A320/A321 conversion programme while EFW will handle sales and marketing, as well as doing conversions.
