Indonesia to retain ban on foreign ownership of ports and airports
INDONESIA is expected to continue its prohibition of foreign ownership of its ports and airports, reports IHS Media.
The revision of what is termed the "negative investment list" is expected to include relaxation on ownership restrictions in many transport and logistics service areas, including port management services, cargo handling, cold storage, and various airport and air cargo-related sectors, said the report.
But majority ownership of seaports will be limited to 49 per cent, according to Transport Minister Ignatius Jonan, a rule that will also applied to airports.
"This is a sovereignty issue, because the port would not only control the land, it will also be in charge of the air space above it. We just cannot give that away to foreigners," Mr Jonan said.
