APMT to heighten 5 cranes to handle 20,000-TEUers in Los Angeles
MAERSK's APM Terminals plans to retrofit at least five cranes at its Los Angeles Pier 400 terminal to handle of 20,000-TEU vessels, reports IHS Media.
Retrofitting will allow the crane booms to reach containers stacked 10 high on deck and to span 23 rows.
APMT said the planned retrofit is in the procurement stage. The company said operations at the Los Angeles terminal would continue without interruption while the cranes are updated.
