ARTA simplifies the process of shipping fine art across the US

ADAM Fields has founded ARTA to make the task of shipping works of art in the United States easier, less time consuming and more transparent by streamlining art shipping.

Top galleries, such as, Kavi Gupta in Chicago, Honor Fraser in Los Angeles, Altman Siegel in San Francisco, and Marlborough Chelsea in New York have already signed on to the service, reported Forbes online.

ARTA streamlines the process by creating a one-stop-shop for fine art shipping. It allows users to find the best shipping option by tapping into a curated network of art transporters, compare pricing, transact and pay online.

To ensure that the art work is being transported safely and securely, the service provider has put together a group of the best and most trusted art transporters and agents worldwide. Each vendor needs to be approved by at least three existing ARTA users and adhere to the standards put forth by the International Convention of Exhibition & Fine Art Transporters.

Mr Fields said he came up with the idea of ARTA while he was running the logistics operation for Artspace.com. "As Artspace started to sell more works that required specialised art shipping, we didn't have a streamlined solution to get quotes and manage that process," he said.

"At that point it became pretty obvious that the shipping problem was a big issue for online and offline purveyors of art and also a huge opportunity because it was being overlooked from a business standpoint," said the CEO.

The next step for the company's technology team is to launch "a shipping calculator that leverages our quoting data to put forth instant art shipping estimates. It sounds simple, but it's a real game changer for the art world," Mr Fields said.
