Shipping exec in divorce battle saves self by bribing hitman

MILLIONAIRE forwarder Oleg Mitnik, president of Newark's TRT International, allegedly saved his own life by offering a hitman hired by his father-in-law, Anatoly Potik, a total of US$125,000 not to complete contract.

The would-be hitman, Boris Nayfeld, along with an associate, Boris Kotlyarsky, have been arrested by the FBI on extortion charges.

Mr Potik, a Long Island businessman, was also arrested on a charge of murder for hire. The trio are in custody facing charges, reported the UK抯 Daily Mail online.

Mr Mitnik is currently embroiled in a bitter multi-million dollar divorce and custody battle with his estranged wife, Ronit Mitnik. Outside Manhattan Supreme Court, where Mr Mitnik is fighting for custody of his two teenage children, he told The New York Post: "I'm happy I stay alive."

The New York shipping executive claims to have negotiated with his would-be killers - who were to be paid $100,000 for the assassination - by agreeing to pay the agreed amount plus an additional $25,000.

It is believed Mr Mitnik and his wife have been separated for at least three years.
