Maersk reorganises globally, makes Hong Kong Asia-Pacific headquarters

WITH the reorganisation of Maersk Line, the world's biggest container shipping company will now make its Asia-Pacific headquarters in Hong Kong with the integration of the North Asia Region, while creating subordinate "clusters" in the regions.

Organisational changes may cause the global personnel reduction by 4,000 by the end of 2017. Throughout the process Maersk Line is working to minimise redundancies through natural attrition, the company said.

"The merger of the North Asia and Asia Pacific regions is part of a larger internal reorganisation within Maersk Line," said Asia Pacific chief Robbert van Trooijen, who run the Hong Kong main office.

The new merged region is named the Asia Pacific Region and has its regional head office in Hong Kong.

"Combining the two regions will allow us to create a leaner organisation operating with greater transparency and alignment on a regional, as well as cluster (sub-regional) level," said Mr van Trooijen, who heads the Hong Kong operation.

There will also be a Greater China Cluster (comprising mainland China, HK and Taiwan) with cluster head office located in Shanghai headed by Silvia Ding.

In regards to the Greater China Cluster, the previously named North, East, South China and Taiwan clusters have been merged into one.

South East Asia Cluster (comprising Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Cambodia and Myanmar) with cluster head office in Singapore and headed by Bo Wegener.

North East Asia Cluster (comprising Japan and Korea) with cluster head office located in Tokyo headed by Jorgen Harling?

Oceania Cluster (comprising New Zealand and Australia) with cluster head office located in Auckland headed by Gerard Morrison.
