France's No 1 port - HAROPA - has a good year though boxes up only 0.7pc
HAROPA, the grouping of the ports of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, posted a 0.7 per cent year-on-year increase in 2015 container traffic against a 2.4 per cent increase in overall tonnage to 91.1 million tonnes.
Business at the ro-ro terminals increased seven per cent. Dry bulk was up 4.1 per cent with grain volume rising 12.6 per cent to 8.17 million tonnes - "the best year since 2010 and the second best year in 15 years".
Liquid bulk was up 5.7 per cent, led by the rise in crude oil imports - 7.5 per cent - with refined products reached a record of 12.6 million tons at Le Havre.
Fertilisers is well at Rouen, reaching 1.34 million tonnes - the best result in 30 years. The other liquid bulk (fertilisers, chemistry) are on the rise, especially owing to good results on export.
The Paris area river traffic increased three per cent after two years of decrease in 2013 and 2014 because of a decline in demand for building materials.
"After a particularly dynamic year 2015, HAROPA will carry on improving its offer all along the year 2016, thus strengthening its role as a major stakeholder for the development of our territories and for the competitiveness of France," said the release.
