Asia Pacific's air cargo markets remain weak in November with demand falling 2.4pc
AIR cargo demand in Asia, measured in freight ton kilometres (FTK), fell by 2.4 per cent in November compared to the same month the previous year, with key manufacturing economies in the region-most notably China-experiencing soft market conditions on the back of the slowdown in global trade, according to the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).
The average international freight load factor decreased by 2.9 percentage points to 65.7 per cent in November year on-year, after available freight capacity rose by 1.8 per cent.
"Air cargo demand narrowed to a 1.8 per cent increase for the first 11 months of 2015, dampened by the general slowdown in global trade," said AAPA director general Andrew Herdman in a statement.
"The air cargo business is suffering from the effects of market weakness in major trading economies, signs of inventory overhang and excess capacity.
"Overall, the region's airlines are focused on responding appropriately to evolving patterns of market demand, whilst making efforts to increase operational efficiency and boost profitability."
