LATAM cargo takes a hit in December as Brazil air cargo demand falls
LATAM Airlines Group continued to report low cargo traffic for December as air freight demand fell off in BrazilLatam despite the usual, end-of-year holiday surge.
Cargo volume for the group decreased 11.2 per cent in December, compared to the December 2014 figures, Reuters reported.
The cargo load factor decreased 6.1 points year on year to 54.1 per cent. The group is continuing to adjust cargo capacity through a reduced freighter operation, which resulted in a decline of 1.4 per cent in cargo ATKs in December.
In 2016, LATAM said it expects demand in the Brazilian market to fall between six and nine per cent. In a filing with Brazil抯 security regulator, the carrier said its operating margin will likely be between 4.5 to 6.5 per cent this year.
