A-E off 21pc to US$740/TEU, Asia-Med down 15pc to $869/TEU
SPOT rates for shipping containers from Asia to Northern Europe fell 21 per cent to US$740 per TEU in the week ending Friday, according to the Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI), Reuters reported.
The Asia-Med component of the SCFI shed $153, to take the spot rate down to $869 per TEU.
The market completely ignored the January 15 rate increases levied by carriers on the Asia-Europe trades, with spot rates plunging 21 per cent last week, according the latest reading of SCFI.
