Slowdown in China's manufacturing output drags down air cargo demand in Asia
AIR cargo demand in Asia, measured in freight tonne kilometres, fell 2.4 per cent in November 2015 on the back of a slowdown in China's manufacturing output.
After taking into account a 1.8 per cent expansion in available freight capacity, the average international load factor for Asian carriers decreased by 2.9 per cent to 65.7 per cent in November, according to data from the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).
"Growth in air cargo demand narrowed to a 1.8 per cent increase for the first 11 months of the year, dampened by the general slowdown in global trade," AAPA director general Andrew Herdman.
"The air cargo business is suffering from the effects of market weakness in major trading economies, signs of inventory overhang and excess capacity," he said.
