Eurofos terminal at Fos-sur-Mer handles record 617,751 TEU in '15

THE joint venture of DP World and CMA CGM's Terminal Link, PortSynergy/Eurofos, handled a recorded 617,751 TEU in 2015 at its Mediterranean Terminal at Fos-sur-Mer outside Marseille, representing an eight per cent increase year on year.

"This new historical record, despite difficult economic conditions in France and Europe, confirms the considerable advantages of our port," said terminal CEO Nicholas Gautier.

Together with fellow terminal Seayard (APM Terminals/MSC) next door, the two facilities comprising the Fos2XL development have invested EUR450 million (US$489.83 million) in infrastructure to date, handling one million TEU combined last year, reported IHS Media. Together they offer ocean liner connections to 60 destinations a week, while on the landside some 15 trains a week operate from Fos to Lyon.

PortSynergy is to install later this year two super postpanamax gantry cranes that are 74 metres high with an outreach of 72 metres for up to 26 container rows.transatlantic tops in profit
