FedEx Freight changes booking system to base rates on US zip codes
FEDEX has amended its shipping rate calculations and will now base pricing in the US on the distance between post codes, known as "zip" codes in the United States.
Unlike the maps with big coloured blocks, the calculator used to determine shipping costs under the new system requires users to go to the FedEx Freight Zone Locator and fill out the form including the zip code number, reports Small Business Trends online.
Customers creating new accounts after the January 4 rollout will automatically be placed on the new freight zone-based rates. Existing customers will not automatically be moved into the system, unless they request to do so. There will be no changes in how customers fill out their Bills of Lading.
Regular FedEx Ground delivery has had a zone map with coloured blocks for some time now and will continue to operate the same as before.
